Monster Paradise Chapter 49: One piece of bad news

The monster horde sent wave after wave of monsters at the defensive layers causing them to slowly tire out.

By 3:30 am, the monster horde’s attacks had been ongoing for 20 hours.
By this time, Lin Huang was extremely worn out.
If it hadn’t been for Giant’s Endurance boosting his stamina, he wouldn’t even be able to lift his blade.

The remaining teenagers were in better shape than him but their mood was equally as terrible.

Lin Huang had long since lost track of how many monsters he and Shirou killed.
His Life Wheel was nearly full by now, with 357 white sections and only 3 more gray sections left.

“Kuro, temporarily sever the connection between my Life Wheel and Shirou’s!” He immediately gave this order to Kuro the moment he saw that his Life Wheel was almost full.

[Master has requested that the Life Wheel connection between the summoned familiar Shirou and him be severed.
Severance confirmed!]

Kuro was nothing if not efficient as he carried out this order quickly.

The reason why he wanted to sever the connection was that if he allowed the Prana to continue flowing into him, his Life Wheel would fill up.

Once his Life Wheel had all 360 sections filled out, his next kill would trigger a Prana Baptism , advancing him into the BlackIron realm.

This advancement is accompanied by him getting his first Life Seed.
Life Seeds were able to strengthen a person’s natural talents and potential in some specific ways.
This made the choice of Life Seed extremely important.

Life Seeds were separated into 5 different systems, Elemental System, Enhancement System, Psychic System, Special System and Compound System.

Lin Huang already chosen the system he wanted : Blade Type Enhancement System.
This type of Life Seed can only be gained by killing Blade type monsters.

However, this type of monster wasn’t present in the monster horde so Lin Huang had no choice but to put off his advancement.

6 am…

As the sun rose,

*thunk* Another monster head was severed by Lin Huang’s blade.
As he stood there gasping for air, he looked at the sunrise in the distance.

“The sun is finally rising…”

These past two hours were torturous for him.
Since he couldn’t advance into the BlackIron realm, his endurance clearly lagged behind the other Three-Star BlackIron teenagers even with his Giant’s Endurance boosting his stats.
By now, every wave of his blade consumed a significant portion of his remaining stamina.

“Lin Huang, are you feeling alright?”, the deterioration of his condition quickly caught the eye of Zhou Le and the others.

“I should be fine for the time being but at this rate, my stamina won’t last.” He voiced his concerns as he gasped for air.
According to his calculations, he could at most last for another 2 more hours.

“Perhaps you should take a break, we will hold down the fort while you do so.” Zhou Le suggested despite knowing that without him, the pressure on them would nearly double.

“There’s no point in me resting.
I can only fight for an extra few more hours even after resting.
Plus, I’m not the only one who is tired.
Everyone’s stamina has been severely depleted as well.
It’s only a matter of time before this layer is breached.” He rejected his suggestion with a shake of his head.
Looking at the canyon entrance in the distance, he said, “We have to solve the root of the problem!”

“So what is the root problem?” Zhou Le immediately asked.

He began whispering his strategy to Zhou Le, “The main reason why our defensive layer will eventually be breached is because of the sheer vastness of the monster horde.
Because of our limited manpower, resting is not an option so our stamina has been severely drained.
The solution for this is actually really simple, that is to reduce the rate at which they leave the canyon by shrinking the canyon entrance.”

“However, given our current situation, there’s no way for us to move another giant boulder to the canyon entrance.
These boulders were the size of a small mountain, there’s no way it can fit in anyone’s storage space.
The only way to move them is to once again rely on the stronghold’s residents.
And even if we could, we would need over a hundred of them to move it, factoring in tools.
With the battlefield as it is, such a feat is simply impossible.” While he was able to diagnose the root problem, he was unable to find the solution.

“If it’s just blocking the entrance, we can use other materials can’t we? We can stack the corpses and form a makeshift wall.
Furthermore, these monster corpses are extremely tough and could easily block any monster attacks.
Even if they can’t, we could just build a thicker corpse wall.” Zhou Le replied in an offhand manner.

Hearing his plan, Lin Huang paused for a second before loudly exclaiming, “Why didn’t I think of this method!”

He immediately contacted Yi Yeyu and relayed the plan to her via a message.

A short while later, Yi Yeyu received the message and began reviewing its plan.
Her first reaction was shock but it was soon replaced by an ecstatic expression.
She swiftly forwarded the message to Yi Zheng who soon showed the same ecstatic expression.
He immediately gathered a few gold hunters and got them to start piling corpses.

It wasn’t long before the mountain of corpses began to take the shape of a defensive wall.
As an extra precaution, Yi Zheng even poured oil on the wall to prevent any monster from climbing over.

With the corpse mountain expanding by the second, the canyon entrance became smaller and smaller.
By noon, the entrance had shrunk to previously planned width of 300 metres, greatly reducing the pressure on everyone.

At the third defensive layer, the rate at which Lin Huang’s team encountered a breach fell from once every few minutes to once every half an hour.
Even the pressure on the second defensive layer had dropped significantly.

Seeing the vast improvement, Yi Zheng gave a thumbs up to Lin Huang from his giant boulder.

Lin Huang pointed at Zhou Le and then sent him a message explaining that it was Zhou Le’s idea.

By the afternoon, everyone was visibly more relaxed, some even had time to eat their rations, replenishing their energy.

Seeing the snowy mountains slowly block out the sun, Yi Yeyu quietly prayed in her heart , “Hopefully there will be no leaks tonight and hopefully that transcendent will get here in time and kill the monster’s transcendent, ending this invasion.”

By 6 pm, the sky slowly became darker as the sun set.
In contrast, the howling from the monsters became more vigorous.

Standing on his giant boulder, Yi Zheng surveyed the 10,000 monsters beneath him and sighed.
However just as he did so, his Imperial Heart Ring vibrated.

However, his ring wasn’t the only one that vibrated.
Lin Huang and his team had received the vibration as well.

Taking advantage of this momentary respite, Lin Huang activated his ring.

A news article came into view as he did so.

“Last night around 8pm, the 7th District’s eastern region suffered an invasion from a ravenous monster horde.
The scope of this invasion was extremely large and up to now, we have confirmed that 7D120, 7D122, 7D123 had been completely massacred.
The death toll has reached 670,000 people.
Currently, there has been no news from 7D121 however a transcendent has been dispatched.
We will continue to update the news as we receive more accurate information…”

Seeing this news, their previously relaxed faces immediately fell.

“We are in trouble now…”

Lin Huang furrowed his brow as he digested the news.
With the neighboring strongholds defeated, Snowy Mountain County was the last stronghold standing.
The transcendent’s next stop is definitely this stronghold.
Given that he was severely injured in this region by a human transcendent, there was no way he would give up till he murdered every human in this region!
